LAGGANSTOWN CRIB BLESSING
was held on Sunday Dec 21, where the crossroads pump used to be. The crowd – young and not so young. Another Lagganstown community “gathering”. Cold dry evening, hats, scarves, gloves. Mc on the night Cyril Fitzgerald along with his wife Sandra, oration by Fr Mattie Mcgrath. A crib with beautiful figures, a not so silent night! Carol singing by the Women’s group, heartfelt poetry by Paddy O’Connor (Belvue) who recited a piece titled “The Crib in Lagganstown” written by Paddy himself. Michael Boland spoke about the significance of Solstice night, emphasizing themes of light and the birth of Jesus Christ.
The Crib with 100-night lights flickering – representing our deceased loved ones. Fantastic generosity with donation of non-perishables to worthy local charity, Cuan Saor in Clonmel. Breeda Bell spoke about Cuan Saor and how important the service is and how the evening’s contribution would help. Children’s eyes filled with awe and wonder and lots more – a birthday celebration that brought everyone together. Well done to all involved and a huge thanks to all who support and make this tradition very special and something to be proud of.
